Research:
Roadmap to Success and Profits
It is said that if you don't care where you are going, any
road will get you there. Organizational leaders do care, so the choice of a road is a
crucial one. Research, when properly designed and executed, provides a strategic road map
that is useful in helping you decide where you want to go, and in identifying the best way
to get there. The Somerset Consulting Group has been conducting customer and
organizational research for over 20 years. We have designed and conducted over 100
different employee and customer surveys for a variety of clients, including utility, high
tech manufacturing, cable television, property management, and telecommunications. Our
staff uses a variety of techniques to help you custom design your survey instrument,
including focus group interviews, individual interviews, and issues analysis. Working with
your organization, we can help you reach your destination through effective, value-added
research capabilities. Our team of research professionals can meet all your research
needs.

Employee
Opinion Survey
Purposes
The Employee Opinion Survey provides users quick and valid
information about how employees perceive the current work environment and information
about how to improve organizational effectiveness.
Description
The model around which the EOS has been created is that
the short and long term performance outcomes of an organization are the result of
decisions made about structure, strategy, systems, empowerment, leadership practices,
human resources policies, and focus. The EOS consists of 134 items and provides users an
assessment of 18 dimensions known to be related to these short and long term performance
outcomes often referred to as organizational effectiveness.
Applications
- Assess employees' perception of the organizational climate
- Assess employee morale and satisfaction
- Assess the level and quality of communications
- Assess employee perceptions of their direct supervision
- Assess employee attitudes toward upper management
- Identify areas in which change is indicated
- Establish internal benchmarks to monitor the effectiveness
of change initiatives

The
Research and Feedback Process
Our goal in working with you goes beyond simply providing
data; we also strive to help you understand what the data mean and how it can be used to
guide decision-making about managing organizational change. Our basic approach to
conducting research is an action research approach. There are six basic processes involved
in our action research model:
- Joint research design;
- Data collection;
- Feedback and joint interpretation of the data;
- Planning for change and taking action;
- Evaluation of results; and
- Refinement and continuation of the change process.
The process is cyclical and promotes learning at the
individual, group, and organizational levels. It enables you to understand the causes
underlying problems and issues identified through the research, and to use that
understanding to introduce change into the organization.

PC-Based
Surveys Data Collection
Survey participants can point and shoot with the mouse or
use the keyboard to enter their responses. Our research shows that focusing on one item at
a time increases response validity and substantially reduces administration time.
To further customize the survey, you can create your own
glossary of definitions for company or industry specific terms in a Pop-Up Glossary
function. The glossary increases validity by having participants respond to each item with
a shared frame of reference.
Total Customization
The survey itself is easy to administer. You can utilize
single-use disks, survey collection stations, or administer via a network.
Our exclusive Survey Software can be adapted to drive any
of our standardized surveys, or one customized to meet your specific needs. We can even
include your company name and logo!!
The software also supports virtually unlimited open-ended
responses. Participant responses to open-ended questions add a richness to survey data
that helps you develop a more complete picture of your organization.
To add even more depth to your understanding, individual
comments can be sorted by pre-selected demographic variables such as department, function,
length of service, gender and so on.
